The American cockroach is also called a “waterbug” or “Palmettobug”. Adults are about 3/8”- 2 1/8” long. Reddish brown in color, except for a pale brown to yellowish band around the back of the head. Both sexes fully winged and are poor to moderately good fliers. Female will deposit her egg capsule (dark reddish to blackish brown about 3/8” long), usually in a crack or crevice of high relative humidity near a food source. They are usually found in warm, moist basements, heating ducts and sewers.
